Nemasket Ceremonial Leaders

Chief Sachem
The Nemasket Walmsley Wolf Clan Chief Sachem is a ceremonial title and lifetime position. It is a honor given to a member of the Nation by the Walmsley Wolf Clan Council and represents an individual of outstanding character, diplomacy, and leadership of the Tribe and is eminently qualified to represent the Walmsley Wolf Clan People in any and all ceremonial activities as honorary Sachem. She or he is also responsible for the morale and welfare programs of all Nemasket members.

Medicine Person
The title of Medicine Person is given to an individual that has a deep understanding of Indigenous traditions and customs. They must be a strong communicator and provide help and advice to members of the tribe while also being an educator and historian, the keeper of myths, legends, traditions and tribal wisdom. Most importantly the Medicine Person is a healer with a combination of exceptional powers and abilities to be truly “good medicine” for our people.

The Keepers
The Keepers are our the Tribal historians. These individuals are responsible for maintaining Nemasket Walmsley Wolf Clan stories, histories and family lineage. These individuals “Keep” the oral history of the Nemasket Walmsley Wolf Clan, and also ‘Keep” genealogies, tales of our Ancestors information on historical and important events, places and milestones for the Nemasket people. The Keepers are lifetime position and are conferred upon a Tribal Members by the Tribal Council.

The Fire Keeper
The important honor of being called to be the Fire Keeper means that this individual has responsibility for building and maintaining our sacred fires specifically those for funerals and also all of our ceremonial fires.
