Pow Wow

It is believed that the term was derived from the Narragansett word “Pow Waw” or the Natick “Pau Wau” both words, in the Algonquian dialects of those Tribes mean “Medicine Man” or “Spiritual Leader.”

A pow wow is a sacred social gathering held by many North American Indigenous communities. Today, the event brings Indigenous people together to meet, dance, drum, sing, and honor the Earth, our Ancestors, and our vibrant cultures.

Pow Wow celebrates the abundance of Mother Earth, acknowledges our Ancestors in offerings, song, and dance, and asks for safe passage of the Tribes through the winter months to come.

We will post a list of Pow Wows here and on our resources page as they become available each season.
