The present-day Walmsley Wolf Clan Nemasket Council, Founders and Advisors represent a long and storied tradition of Walmsley descendants working to establish our Indigenous rights. The modern day journey began with the late Bernice (Walmsley) Young (Swift Wind) and her late siblings, Edward, Jerry, Jr., Robert and Richard, who worked tirelessly throughout their lifetimes to bring recognition to the Walmsley family for, as Great Moose put it: “the remarkable lineage to Massasoit” and to those Indigenous leaders of the original Tribes of the 17th-century first contact.
Swift Wind, along with her daughter Diane LaFrance, her granddaughter Roxanne Young-Perry, her grandson Wayne Young and her great nephew, the late Deon Walmsley collaborated with the Late Russell Gardner (Great Moose), the Wampanoag Historian, who certified the Walmsley family as descendants of, in his words: “Massasoit Ousemaquin through his daughter Aime and the Sachem Tuspaquin of Nemasket.”
In 2018, the Council and Founders were given the task of reviving the Nemasket Tribal Nation Walmsley Wolf Clan in the 21st-century and beyond.
